Principles of Design:
Designing, now a days a career that can make you earn good and at the same time you feel connected,, so instead getting basics of designing most of the people just jump into the sea of artwork. It is not that without knowing these basics you can not create good art/design, but knowing these facts gives you understanding if certain design is not looking good/decent, why is that? So lets cover some basics here.
1: Balance – In an artwork distribution of visual weight is called balance, so what exactly it is?
To understand there are three types of balances.
a) Symmetrical – Two sides of artwork are same, same design on both side.
b) Asymmetrical – Different artwork on both sides but weighted equally.
c) Radial – And last radial symmetry, where design starts from the center.
2: Contrast – It no more than opposing elements together,, like in colors black & white, red & green, in direction
vertical & horizontal, in tone light and dark.
3: Emphasis – Creating point in any artwork to grab attention of viewer to particular area is done in almost all artwork, and this point is called focal point. And creation of focal point in any artwork is called emphasis.
4: Pattern – Decorating the artwork using consistent and regular repeated elements is done in many artwork and
called pattern.
5: Movement – After watching any artwork how eye of viewer travel through the artwork is called the movement, most often movements of elements take the viewer to a focal point.
6: Unity – Relationship between elements in any visual that gives meaning to any artwork is called unity.
7: Rhythm – Regular repetition of any elements that can form into a shape, object or any form that create interest.
For better understanding of what actually is meaning of all above definitions there are at least one example of artwork/image with every definition. I hope you liked it.
There will be a post on some more basics and facts over Designing.
