FORM, AS ELEMENT OF ART

Form, the basic element of art- Last time as element of art discussion was about shapes and forms are connected with shapes. How? that’s the question shapes are like 2 Dimensional circle, rectangle,or any other custom shapes but how it looks in real that thing is called forms.

If you simply try to focus on each shape you will some kind of form out of it.

for example-
circle will be sphere
square will be cube
rectangle will be converted into rectangular prism
and triangle will be your pyramid

So like shapes there are two kind of forms.
first one is Geometrical and second is natural or organic. As form is 3 Dimensional it got one extra attribute with it, it could be height/ depth.

As you saw above that geometrical forms get a name while organic shapes always carry a name with it, its not necessary. For a form to be drawn on it is needed to create a illusion, it is necessary to keep simple points in mind that how light reacts with object/form. These are the attributes.

Highlight– The part where light is directly on the form is called the highlight area of form.
Mid-tone- Object’s color when drawing it, we have a middle value for its local color. is called mid-tone.
Core Shadow– The shaded area of an object is core shadow, this will be filled with darker color of local color of object.
Cast Shadow- it is the area around object where is light is blocked because of object. it will be filled with deeper color to the closest part of object and lighter to the far parts.

Reflected highlight- last one, it is much necessary as others, most of the artist who miss this one because the thing it is not that important. And it is that part of an object that is shining or lighter because light is getting reflected by surrounding objects.
