Space is all around us, the space is the place the object is surrounded, the space which is inside of the object. in art illusion is needed to be created of space.
There are 6 ways of doing that.
Overlapping- The object in front prevent from seeing some part of object behind. On a flat screen or paper the shape could be of same size but when you draw a shape over another shape this creates illusion of space and this is called overlapping.
Size- object that is near is big, and those are far are drawn smaller and this way illusion of space is created. This is nothing but human vision concept if something is far from us it looks small and objects closer to us look big. If We apply same concept while drawing or designing, this will create illusion.
Placement on Surface- Other option is placement to the pane, exactly where the object is placed. if it closed to the pane it is far from us, if it is drawn down, it is closed to us.
Detail– This is wonderful way of telling that you are watching the object in detail because it is closer to you, as object go far far from us, details of it seems little fuzzy and after some time gone. Like the example image is there is a normally showing the milestone on a road and some starting milestones got good details because they are close to us, as we go far from them details seem little disturbed and after sometime they are gone, so to create illusion of space we create front object in full detail and then slowly slowly taking away some details of object to show that it is far from front object.
Color and Value – Color and its value, same object that is closer to us
filled with darker color, and object far from our eyes are filled with smoother color and with brightness. This is way of creating illusion through color and its value. In general life if you watch mountains they seem to have dark most color at front hill and hills far behind from the first hill got the same color but with increased brightness. Is it not great that you can use the concept of color and value to depict the great artwork.
Linear perspective– There are ways to create illusion of space through linear perspective.
1- single point- It is about creating illusion of space for an object that it is viewed by on angle.
2- 2 point perspective. Instead of single point the object is viewed from 2 points and created accordingly. Like in example image the object is created, if now we erase extra lines and color the different sides of object we will get a solid shape.
