When talking about texture, we talk about the feel how it feels when you touch surface of anything. Its called texture, one of the element of Art or Design. From starting point of your day how you start to feel, from daily objects around us weather it is your wooden floor with little texture out of it or Paintings hanging on your wall, your carpet or whatever you got around your eyes.
There are two types of texture exactly, one is physical that is real another one is illusion of texture that is creating the feel of texture on canvas. So if you go on details that how illusion of texture is created, there are two ways of doing it
1. By simulating real texture of object on canvas. So if a animal is drawn on canvas, the artist will take care of details of object which are needed to be painted on canvas to simulate the real texture of that object.
2. By creating pattern of shapes and lines in a regular or irregular manner so it can create a feel of texture. Actually inventing texture on 2D is all about taking care of colors and values after considering your pattern and shapes.
all along texture can be categorized the way we feel them or in case of 2D canvas, how we feel when we see them. There could be rough texture, smooth texture etc. In the image below there is the example of simple artwork to create a photo frame on wall, with simple color without texture it doesn’t look like one but when the texture is
applied to same artwork, it look more real. Isn’t it?
